So John Kerry has thrown down the gauntlet to one of the more respected conservative minds by challenging George Will to a debate on global warming. Kerry mocks the notion that there is a global scientific conspiracy to push a global warming agenda. Is that really necessary, do people believe that the scientific community is just signing off on anything to get more money to push their research? Come on, this isn't Tobacco or Big Business we're talking about

This piece by Jason Jones from the Daily Show is hilarious... two absolute nutjob preachers spouting off about Obama as either the Antichrist or Hitler. The hilarity lies in Jones' willingness to laugh directly in these mens' faces, and how the piece is edited to show that these two guys directly contradict each others crazy claim. The sadness trickles in when you realize that Sean Hannity has discussed the Hitler comparison on his show with Pastor Manning, and CNN has run the Antichrist guy's story... is it time yet for that serious discussion about the value of modern-day religion (as compared to spirituality or ethics) in this country? Not a discussion of God or Goodness, but the purpose and worth of organized religion...

Slumdog Millionaire draws prizes and protests...

Wow, Slumdog Millionaire just won 8 Oscars , including Best Picture ... although there have been recent protests in India. That sounded cool until I realized that one main root cause of the protests is that the term "slumdog" is insulting to slum-dwellers. If this is truly a grassroots protest from the slums of India, then I guess I can't speak for their feelings, but that seems like a pretty low bar to set for being insulted. Slumdog actually doesn't sound that bad to me at all, it sounds kind of tough and hardened.

How the stimulus will impact Jesus...

Conservatives have figured a way to weasel Jesus into criticism of the stimulus bill . Granted, it's always fun to come up with these kind of unbelievable numbers ($1 million a day since Jesus was born equals the stimulus bill). However, I do wish they would post next to it the number a day since Jesus was born that's been spent in Iraq, or given to Halliburton, or killed in war, or died in utter poverty...

A terrible loss, but a genuine response...

Read this story.... A High School Basketball player's mother died on the day of a game, and he showed up to play amidst his own grief. But the reaction of the other people and players is the warm part of the story. Not much I can say to make it better, it always makes you feel something when people show compassion to others when they don't have to.

It's always 9/11 somewhere...
